Holders of an HKSAR ordinary passport do NOT need a visa for short tourist stays in Belgium. You can enter the Schengen Area visa-free for up to 90 days within any 180-day period. As of 31 May 2026, ETIAS is not yet required, but it is expected to launch in late 2026 (mandatory from 2027). Belgium is part of the Schengen Area, and HKSAR ordinary passport holders enjoy visa-free entry for short stays (tourism, business, visiting family). The maximum stay is 90 days in any rolling 180-day period across the entire Schengen zone, not per country. No visa, eVisa, or visa-on-arrival is needed for stays within this limit. Two new EU border systems affect this route: the Entry/Exit System (EES), an automated biometric registration at the border, is being phased in during 2025-2026; and ETIAS, a pre-travel online authorisation costing EUR 20, is expected to become operational in Q4 2026 and mandatory from 2027. Neither is required as of 31 May 2026, so travellers today simply need a valid HKSAR passport meeting Schengen validity rules, proof of onward travel, accommodation, and sufficient funds. Important caveat: this exemption applies only to the HKSAR passport. Holders of a BNO passport, Hong Kong Document of Identity, or Certificate of Identity do NOT enjoy the same visa-free access and must obtain a Schengen visa. Visitors not staying in a hotel must register their presence with local authorities within three working days.
