Do United Kingdom passport holders need a visa to visit UY?
British (UK ordinary) passport holders do NOT need a visa for tourism in Uruguay. You can enter visa-free and stay for up to 90 days, extendable once for a further 90 days at the immigration authority. As of 30 May 2026, holders of an ordinary United Kingdom passport can travel to Uruguay for tourism or short visits without a visa, under a long-standing visa-waiver arrangement in force since 1 March 1961. On arrival you receive a tourist entry stamp permitting a stay of up to 90 days, which can be extended once for an additional 90 days at the Dirección Nacional de Migración (DNM). Uruguay operates no eVisa, ETA or visa-on-arrival scheme for British nationals, and Uruguay is not part of the Schengen area, so the Schengen 90/180 rule and ETIAS do not apply. The UK government advises that your passport must be valid for the full duration of your stay and have at least one blank page for the entry stamp; many carriers and consular services recommend at least six months' validity as a precaution. Travellers should be ready to show proof of onward or return travel and evidence of sufficient funds. This is the current, verified position confirmed by gov.uk foreign travel advice and the published visa policy of Uruguay.
