UK ordinary passport holders need a visa to enter Tanzania. The recommended route is the Tanzania eVisa (Ordinary single-entry tourist visa, USD 50, up to 90 days), applied for online before travel at the official portal. Visa on arrival is also available at major ports of entry as a backup. A United Kingdom (GB) ordinary passport holder traveling to Tanzania for tourism requires a visa. As of 30 May 2026, the recommended and most reliable option is the electronic Ordinary Visa (eVisa), applied for in advance through the official Tanzania Immigration Services Department portal at visa.immigration.go.tz. The Ordinary Visa for tourists costs USD 50, is single-entry, and permits a stay of up to 90 days. Online applications are processed within around 10 working days. A single-entry tourist visa on arrival remains available at major ports of entry (Julius Nyerere International, Kilimanjaro International, Abeid Amani Karume International in Zanzibar, and main land borders), subject to meeting all immigration requirements and showing proof of onward/return travel, but Tanzania and the UK government both recommend obtaining the eVisa before departure to avoid delays. The Tanzanian High Commission in London no longer issues visas. The passport must be valid for at least 6 months from arrival and have at least one blank page. Travelers to Zanzibar must hold mandatory Inbound Travel Insurance from the Zanzibar Insurance Corporation (ZIC). Proof of yellow fever vaccination is required only if arriving from or transiting a country with transmission risk; mpox temperature screening applies at entry points.
