UK ordinary passport holders need a visa for Timor-Leste, but a single-entry 30-day tourist visa on arrival (US$30, cash only) is issued at Dili's Presidente Nicolau Lobato International Airport and Dili seaport. No advance visa is needed for these air/sea entry points. British citizens visiting Timor-Leste (East Timor) for tourism do not qualify for visa-free entry, but they can obtain a tourist visa on arrival when entering by air at Presidente Nicolau Lobato International Airport in Dili, or by sea at Dili seaport. The visa-on-arrival is single-entry, allows a stay of up to 30 days, and costs US$30 payable in cash only. It can be extended once in Dili for a further 30 days (extension fee US$40), for a maximum total stay of about 60 days. Passports must be valid for at least 6 months from the date of arrival and have at least 2 blank pages. There may be no ATM or currency-exchange facilities at the entry point, so travelers should carry exactly US$30 in cash. Important: visa on arrival is NOT available at most land borders. Travelers arriving overland (for example the Atambua-Batugade crossing from Indonesia, or to the Oecussi exclave via the Wini checkpoint) must obtain a Visa Application Authorization in advance from a Timor-Leste embassy/consulate before travel. Timor-Leste is not in the Schengen area, so the Schengen 90/180 rule and ETIAS do not apply. As of mid-2026 Timor-Leste had announced plans for an eVisa system but it was not yet operational, so visa on arrival remains the standard route for air arrivals.
