UK citizens can visit Slovakia visa-free for up to 90 days in any 180-day period. As of 31 May 2026 no ETIAS is required yet, but the EES biometric system is live at the border. A United Kingdom ordinary passport holder does not need a visa for tourism or a short visit to Slovakia. Slovakia is part of the Schengen Area, and British citizens enjoy visa-free entry for stays of up to 90 days within any rolling 180-day period for tourism, family visits, business meetings, or short-term study. This allowance covers the entire Schengen Area combined, not Slovakia alone — any days already spent in other Schengen countries within the preceding 180 days count against the 90-day limit. As of 31 May 2026, no advance travel authorisation is required: you travel on your valid passport. However, the EU Entry/Exit System (EES) became fully operational on 10 April 2026, so on arrival you will register biometric data (fingerprints and a facial photo) at the external Schengen border instead of having your passport stamped. The separate ETIAS travel authorisation (a EUR 20 online pre-authorisation valid 3 years) is expected to begin in the last quarter of 2026; until the EU confirms and launches it, UK travellers do NOT need ETIAS. Passport rules: your passport must have been issued less than 10 years before your date of entry and be valid for at least 3 months after your intended departure from the Schengen Area. At the border you may be asked to show proof of accommodation, onward/return travel, and sufficient funds. Visitors should also have their accommodation reported to the Foreigners' Police within 3 working days (hotels do this automatically).
