British (UK ordinary) passport holders need a visa for Saudi Arabia, but it is easy to obtain online: apply for the Saudi tourist eVisa via the official Visit Saudi portal. It is a 1-year, multiple-entry visa allowing stays of up to 90 days per visit and includes mandatory health insurance. A United Kingdom ordinary passport holder cannot enter Saudi Arabia visa-free for tourism, but qualifies for the Saudi tourist eVisa, which is the recommended route. The eVisa is applied for online at visa.visitsaudi.com, is normally approved within 24-72 hours, and is issued as a one-year, multiple-entry visa permitting stays of up to 90 days per visit; the all-in fee (including mandatory medical insurance) is about SAR 535. UK travellers can alternatively obtain the same visa on arrival at major Saudi airports by card (about SAR 480), or use the UK-specific Electronic Visa Waiver (EVW) which permits a single entry of up to 180 days for tourism, business, study or treatment but cannot be used for work or pilgrimage. The tourist eVisa permits tourism, business meetings, family/friend visits and Umrah (outside the Hajj season), but not paid work or Hajj. Passports must be valid for at least six months from the date of entry. Saudi Arabia is not in the Schengen area, so the Schengen 90/180 rule and ETIAS do not apply.
