UK (GB) ordinary passport holders need a tourist visa for Madagascar, but it is easy to obtain. The recommended route is the official eVisa applied for online before travel; a visa on arrival is also available at the international airport. Even a short stay of 15 days or less requires the visa/administration fee to be paid. British citizens cannot enter Madagascar fully visa-free. For tourism, the simplest and recommended option is the official eVisa (electronic travel authorisation) applied for at evisamada.gov.mg before departure, with approval normally within 72 hours. A visa on arrival is also available at Antananarivo (Ivato) and other international airports, payable in USD, EUR or Malagasy ariary. Stays of up to 15 days are covered by the lowest fee tier (often referred to loosely as "visa-free" but a fee still applies); 16-30, 31-60 and up to 90-day tiers cost progressively more. The tourist visa is single entry. Passports must be valid for at least 6 months from arrival with at least 2 blank pages, and travellers should be able to show onward/return tickets. Overstaying can lead to detention or deportation. Note: Madagascar is in the Indian Ocean off East Africa and is not part of the Schengen area, so the Schengen 90/180 rule and ETIAS do not apply.
