Do United Kingdom passport holders need a visa to visit LU?
No visa needed. UK ordinary passport holders can visit Luxembourg visa-free for up to 90 days in any 180-day period as a Schengen short stay. Luxembourg is a member of the Schengen area. British citizens holding an ordinary passport do not need a visa for tourism or short visits and may stay up to 90 days within any rolling 180-day period. Days spent in any other Schengen country count toward the same 90-day allowance, so plan multi-country trips carefully. Your passport must have been issued less than 10 years before your arrival date and remain valid for at least 3 months beyond your planned departure from the Schengen area. The EU Entry/Exit System (EES) is now operational, so on arrival you will register biometric data (fingerprints and a facial photo) at the external Schengen border instead of receiving manual passport stamps; there is no fee for this. The ETIAS travel authorisation is scheduled to launch in the last quarter of 2026 and is NOT yet required for travel on 2026-05-31. Once ETIAS is live (with a grace period following launch), UK travellers will need to obtain it before departure. At the border you may be asked to show proof of accommodation, onward/return tickets, sufficient funds and travel insurance.
