Do United Kingdom passport holders need a visa to visit HR?
British (UK) ordinary passport holders do NOT need a visa for short tourist stays in Croatia. Croatia is a full Schengen member, so you may visit visa-free for up to 90 days in any rolling 180-day period. Croatia joined the Schengen Area on 1 January 2023. As a visa-exempt third country since Brexit, the United Kingdom enjoys visa-free short-stay access to the whole Schengen Area, including Croatia, for up to 90 days within any 180-day period for tourism, visiting family/friends, business meetings and similar non-paid activities. Days spent in ANY Schengen country count toward the single 90/180 allowance. No visa or pre-travel authorisation is currently required as of 31 May 2026. Two new EU border systems are being rolled out: the Entry/Exit System (EES), a biometric registration at the border (no fee), and ETIAS, a EUR 20 electronic travel authorisation. ETIAS is expected to launch in late 2026 (Q4) with a transitional grace period of around six months, after which it will become mandatory for UK and other visa-exempt travellers (estimated early/mid 2027). ETIAS is NOT yet required as of this date. Passport rules: it must have been issued within the last 10 years on the day you enter and be valid for at least 3 months after your intended departure from the Schengen Area.
