Do United Kingdom passport holders need a visa to visit GR?
UK ordinary passport holders do NOT need a visa to visit Greece for tourism. You can enter Greece (and the wider Schengen area) visa-free for up to 90 days in any rolling 180-day period. As of 31 May 2026, British citizens holding an ordinary passport can travel to Greece for tourism without a visa. Greece is part of the Schengen area, so the visa-free allowance is up to 90 days within any 180-day period, counted across ALL Schengen countries combined (not 90 days per country). Your passport must have been issued less than 10 years before your arrival date and must be valid for at least 3 months after the day you plan to leave the Schengen area. No visa application or pre-travel authorisation is required at this time. The EU Entry/Exit System (EES) became fully operational on 10 April 2026, so on arrival you may be biometrically registered (facial image and fingerprints) at the border instead of having your passport manually stamped, though phased flexibility and local suspensions have applied in places including Greece. The ETIAS travel authorisation is NOT yet required: it is expected to launch in the last quarter of 2026 and become mandatory for UK travellers after a transitional period in 2027, at which point a EUR 20 online authorisation (free for under-18s and over-70s) will be needed before travel. Until then, a valid UK passport is sufficient. Travellers should be ready to show a return/onward ticket, proof of accommodation and sufficient funds. Overstaying the 90/180 limit can lead to fines and a Schengen entry ban of up to 3 years.
