Do United Kingdom passport holders need a visa to visit GL?

UK ordinary passport holders do NOT need a visa to visit Greenland for tourism. You can stay up to 90 days. Greenland is NOT part of the Schengen Area, so ETIAS does not apply and a Schengen/Danish visa is not valid for Greenland. British citizens holding an ordinary passport may travel to Greenland for tourism without a visa for stays of up to 90 days. Although Greenland is an autonomous territory of the Kingdom of Denmark, it is NOT a member of the European Union and is NOT part of the Schengen Area. As a result, the Schengen 90/180 short-stay rule does not formally govern Greenland, ETIAS will not be required for Greenland (it applies only to Schengen/EU member states), and crucially a Schengen or Danish national visa is NOT valid for entry to Greenland. For UK passport holders this distinction is academic because they are visa-exempt either way, but travellers who hold a Schengen visa on another passport must apply separately for Greenland. Entry is by air, almost always transiting through Copenhagen (Denmark/Schengen) or Iceland (Schengen) en route, so travellers should still satisfy Schengen transit rules during the connecting leg. Carry a passport in good condition; while Greenland itself is liberal on validity, Danish/Icelandic transit and airline rules generally expect validity well beyond the trip. The verdict was confirmed against the official Visit Greenland visa page and UK GOV.UK Denmark travel advice (both current for 2026), which state UK citizens are visa-free for tourism and will remain so.
