UK ordinary passport holders can visit Georgia visa-free for up to one year for tourism. No visa or pre-arrival permit is needed. As of 1 January 2026, all visitors must carry valid travel medical insurance (minimum 30,000 GEL coverage) and present it on request at the border. British citizens holding an ordinary passport do not need a visa to enter Georgia. Georgia grants visa-free entry to UK nationals for stays of up to 365 days (one year) per entry, one of the most generous visa-free allowances in the world. This applies to tourism, business, family visits and similar short purposes. The GOV.UK foreign travel advice and the Georgian Ministry of Foreign Affairs both confirm this policy. Georgia is NOT part of the Schengen area, so the EU 90/180-day rule and ETIAS do not apply. The main 2026 development is a new mandatory health and accident insurance rule: since 1 January 2026 every foreign visitor must hold travel medical insurance covering the full duration of stay with a minimum limit of 30,000 Georgian Lari (about USD 11,000); proof (paper or electronic, in Georgian or English) can be requested at any border crossing and travelers without it risk a fine (reported at around 300 GEL) or refused entry. Separately, from 1 March 2026, anyone wishing to work in Georgia, including remote work or running a business, needs a work permit, but this does not affect ordinary tourism. Passports should be valid for the duration of the stay and in good condition.
