Do United Kingdom passport holders need a visa to visit CL?

No visa needed. UK ordinary passport holders can visit Chile for tourism visa-free for up to 90 days. British (GB) ordinary passport holders do not need a visa to enter Chile for tourism. On arrival, immigration grants a "Permanencia Transitoria" (transitory stay) for up to 90 days, evidenced by a Tarjeta Unica Migratoria (TUM) / tourist card issued at the border. There is no advance application, no eVisa and no ETA required, and Chile no longer charges a reciprocity fee for UK travellers (the old fee was abolished). Your passport simply needs to be valid for the duration of your stay, and immigration may ask for proof of onward/return travel and sufficient funds. The 90-day stay can be extended once for a further 90 days through SERMIG for a USD 100 fee if needed. Keep the tourist card safe, as it must be surrendered on departure and it also exempts tourists from the 19% VAT on hotel accommodation when paying in foreign currency. Chile is not in the Schengen area, so the Schengen 90/180 rule and ETIAS do not apply to this route.
