Do United Kingdom passport holders need a visa to visit CH?

No visa required. UK passport holders can visit Switzerland for tourism for up to 90 days in any 180-day period across the Schengen Area. ETIAS is not yet required (expected late 2026); EES biometric registration is now in force at entry. Switzerland is a member of the Schengen Area (though not the EU). British citizens holding an ordinary passport travel visa-free to Switzerland for short stays of up to 90 days within any rolling 180-day period, for tourism, family visits or business. No advance authorisation is currently required. Your passport must have been issued less than 10 years before your arrival date and remain valid for at least 3 months beyond your intended departure from the Schengen Area. Since 12 October 2025 the EU/Schengen Entry/Exit System (EES) has been operational: on first entry you register biometrics (facial image and fingerprints) at the border, replacing manual passport stamping. The European Travel Information and Authorisation System (ETIAS) is expected to launch in the last quarter of 2026; once live, UK travellers will need a pre-trip ETIAS authorisation (a one-off online application, valid 3 years), but it is NOT required as of 31 May 2026. Border officers may ask for proof of accommodation, a return ticket, travel insurance and sufficient funds (roughly CHF 100 per day).
