Do United Kingdom passport holders need a visa to visit BO?
UK ordinary passport holders do NOT need a visa for tourism in Bolivia. You can stay up to 90 days within any 12-month period visa-free. However, everyone must complete the free SIGEMIG online migratory pre-registration before arrival and present the QR code at the border. British citizens are placed in Group 1 (visa exemption) under Bolivia's visa policy and may enter for tourism without a visa for up to 90 days within a 365-day period. In practice, immigration officers at El Alto (La Paz), Viru Viru (Santa Cruz) and land crossings often stamp an initial 30 days, which can be extended at a Migracion office up to the 90-day annual cap at no cost. The visa itself is free. Since mid-2025, Bolivia requires all foreign visitors, including visa-exempt tourists, to complete the SIGEMIG (Sistema de Gestion Migratoria) electronic pre-registration before arrival; this is free, takes about 8-10 minutes, requires lodging details for the whole stay, and generates a QR code presented at the border. Failure to complete SIGEMIG is the leading cause of border delays in 2026 and can result in fines on exit. Your passport must be valid for at least 6 months beyond arrival with at least two blank pages, and you should be prepared to show proof of onward travel and accommodation. A yellow fever vaccination certificate is required if arriving from a country with risk of yellow fever transmission and is recommended for travel to lower-altitude/jungle regions. Always ensure you receive an entry stamp; missing it leads to fines on departure.
