French (FR) ordinary passport holders do NOT need a visa for tourist or short visits to Uzbekistan of up to 30 days. Entry is visa-free under a unilateral exemption Uzbekistan granted to France on 5 October 2018, still in force as of 2026. Holders of an ordinary French passport can enter Uzbekistan without any visa and stay up to 30 days per entry for tourism, business, family visits or transit. This visa-free regime was introduced unilaterally by Uzbekistan on 5 October 2018 and remains valid in 2026, as confirmed by the Uzbekistan Ministry of Foreign Affairs. No application, fee or pre-registration is required before travel. You simply present a passport valid for the period of stay and (in practice) onward/return travel evidence at the border. The only post-arrival obligation is residence registration: any foreigner staying more than 72 hours (three working days) must be registered at their place of stay. Hotels and hostels do this automatically through the e-Mehmon system and issue a registration slip; travelers in private accommodation (Airbnb, friends, family) must self-register online. A small per-night tourist tax (a percentage of the base reference value, typically well under EUR 1 per night) is generally collected by the accommodation. For stays longer than 30 days, or for work/study, a visa or e-visa (USD 20 single entry) would be required, but this does not apply to ordinary short tourist visits.
