Do France passport holders need a visa to visit TN?
French passport holders do not need a visa to visit Tunisia for tourism. They can stay up to 90 days visa-free. As of 1 January 2025, a valid passport (not a national ID card) is mandatory, and it must be valid for at least 3 months beyond the date of entry. France (FR) ordinary passport holders enjoy visa-free entry to Tunisia for short tourist or business visits of up to 90 days within a rolling period. No advance visa, eVisa, or visa-on-arrival is required for this duration. The key recent change took effect on 1 January 2025: European tourists, including French citizens, can no longer enter Tunisia on a national identity card (even for organized group tours) and must now present a valid passport. The passport must remain valid for at least 3 months after the arrival date. Tunisia is not part of the Schengen area, so the Schengen 90/180 rule and ETIAS do not apply to this route; the 90-day allowance is Tunisia's own national rule. There is no automatic tourist extension: staying beyond 90 days puts the traveler in an irregular situation, requiring an exit authorization from the border/immigration authorities and typically payment of an overstay fine before departure. For stays longer than 3 months, a visa and a residence card (carte de séjour) must be obtained from the Tunisian Ministry of the Interior. Travelers are advised to confirm current rules with the Tunisian consulate before departure, as group-travel ID exemptions were only recently abolished.
