Palestine has no independent border control, so entry to the West Bank is governed entirely by Israel. French passport holders are visa-exempt for Israel but, since 1 January 2025, must obtain an approved ETA-IL (Israel electronic travel authorization) online before travel. This permits stays of up to 90 days. The State of Palestine (the West Bank and Gaza) does not operate its own international border posts and does not issue tourist visas. All entry is controlled by Israeli authorities (and, at the Allenby/King Hussein Bridge, jointly with Jordan). Because the Palestinian Authority does not control the crossings, the practical entry requirement for a French (FR) ordinary passport holder is whatever Israel requires. France is on Israel's visa-exempt list, so French tourists do not need a traditional visa for stays of up to 90 days. However, since 1 January 2025 Israel requires all visa-exempt nationals, including EU and French citizens, to hold an approved ETA-IL (Electronic Travel Authorization) obtained online before boarding. Travelers arriving without an approved ETA-IL can be refused entry. The ETA-IL costs 25 NIS, is valid for two years (or until the passport expires), allows multiple entries, and permits up to 90 days per visit; it should be applied for at least 72 hours before travel. Once admitted, a French traveler is free to enter Palestinian Authority areas of the West Bank (Bethlehem, Ramallah, Hebron, Nablus, Jericho). Those entering via the Allenby Bridge from Jordan may receive a permit marked for Palestinian Authority areas only. Gaza is not accessible to tourists. Because there is no Palestinian visa channel and entry depends on Israel's ETA-IL, the operative verdict for a short tourist visit is an ETA.
