French ordinary passport holders need an eVisa (Easy Visitor Permit) for tourism in Papua New Guinea. As an EU member, France qualifies to apply online via the official ICA eVisa portal for a 60-day, single-entry permit costing USD 50. There is no visa-free entry, and visa on arrival is no longer available to French citizens. A France ordinary passport holder traveling to Papua New Guinea (PNG) for tourism is not visa-free and must obtain an Easy Visitor Permit (EVP) before traveling. France, as an EU member state, is on the list of nationalities eligible to apply for this electronic visa through Papua New Guinea's Immigration and Citizenship Authority (ICA) eVisa portal (evisa.ica.gov.pg). The EVP authorizes a single entry with a stay of up to 60 days, is non-extendable, and prohibits paid work. The standard fee is USD 50, paid online at the time of application. While the average processing time is around 1 to 2 days, the ICA advises that all eVisas may take up to 10 working days, so applying well ahead of travel is recommended. The passport must be valid for at least 6 months on the date of arrival. Visa on arrival, which was suspended during the pandemic, is currently NOT available to French citizens and is restricted to Pacific Island nations/territories and Israel, so French travelers must use the eVisa channel. PNG is not part of the Schengen area, so the Schengen 90/180 rule and ETIAS do not apply to this route.
