No visa needed. France is an EU/Schengen member and Norway is in the Schengen Area and EEA, so French passport holders enter Norway visa-free under EU/EEA freedom of movement. You can travel on a valid passport or national ID card, and stay for up to three months for tourism without any registration. As an EU citizen you are also exempt from the upcoming ETIAS authorisation. A French ordinary passport holder does not need a visa to visit Norway. Norway is part of both the Schengen Area and the EEA, and France is an EU/Schengen member, so French citizens enjoy freedom of movement under the EU Citizens' Rights Directive. They may enter and stay for tourism, visits or holidays for up to three months without registering with the police, and may use either a valid passport or a French national identity card as a travel document. Because this is intra-EEA travel by an EU national, the standard third-country Schengen 90/180 short-stay rule and the ETIAS travel authorisation (expected to launch in the last quarter of 2026) do not apply to French citizens. After three months, a French citizen must either leave or qualify for continued residence (work, study, self-employment, or self-sufficiency) and register according to the EU/EEA regulations. The EU Entry/Exit System (EES), which went live on 10 April 2026, applies to non-EU nationals, not to French citizens.
