Do France passport holders need a visa to visit MD?
French ordinary passport holders do NOT need a visa to visit Moldova. They can stay visa-free for up to 90 days within any 180-day period for tourism or short visits. France is on the Republic of Moldova's official visa-exemption list, so French ordinary passport holders may enter Moldova without a visa for tourism, business, transit, or family visits. The permitted stay is up to 90 days within any rolling 180-day period. As an EU citizen, a French traveler may enter using either a valid passport or a machine-readable national identity card; the travel document must be issued within the last 10 years and remain valid for at least 3 months beyond the intended departure date. Moldova is NOT part of the Schengen Area or the EU, so the Schengen 90/180 rule and ETIAS do not apply to entering Moldova (ETIAS is a future requirement for Moldovans entering the EU, not the reverse). There is no application, fee, or pre-registration for short stays. Border officers may ask for proof of onward/return travel, accommodation, and sufficient funds (commonly cited at roughly EUR 30 per day). To stay beyond 90 days or to work, study, or reside, a long-stay D visa and/or residence permit must be arranged separately.
