French ordinary passport holders need an Electronic Travel Authorization (eTA) before traveling to Kenya for tourism. France is not on Kenya's eTA-exemption list, so the eTA must be approved before departure. It is not a visa-free entry and there is no visa-on-arrival channel. Since 1 January 2024 Kenya abolished traditional visas and replaced them with a mandatory Electronic Travel Authorization (eTA) for nearly all foreign visitors. On 30 May 2025 Kenya expanded the exemption list to cover most African nationals and a number of previously visa-free countries, but France was not added. French ordinary passport holders must therefore apply online at the official portal (etakenya.go.ke) before travel. The eTA costs USD 30 (a card-processing surcharge can push the charged total to roughly USD 32.50-39), permits a single entry with a stay of up to 90 days, is valid for travel within 90 days of issuance, and is normally processed within about 3 working days. Applications can be lodged up to 90 days in advance and must be submitted at least 3 days before departure. A passport valid 6+ months with a blank page, a photo, accommodation/return-ticket details and online payment are required. Boarding can be denied without an approved eTA, so a conservative eTA-required verdict applies.
