Do France passport holders need a visa to visit GE?
French ordinary passport holders do not need a visa for Georgia. They can enter visa-free and stay up to 1 year (365 days) for tourism. Since 1 January 2026, all visitors must carry valid travel medical insurance (minimum 30,000 GEL coverage) for the full stay. France is on Georgia's list of countries whose citizens may enter without a visa, and it enjoys one of the most generous allowances in the world: up to 365 days of visa-free stay within any 365-day period, valid for tourism, business, and many other purposes. French citizens may even enter on a national ID card as an alternative to a passport. Georgia is not a member of the Schengen Area or the EU, so the Schengen 90/180 short-stay rule and ETIAS do not apply to entering Georgia. The one major recent change French travelers must be aware of: effective 1 January 2026, every foreign visitor (regardless of nationality or visa status) must hold a valid travel medical/accident insurance policy with minimum coverage of 30,000 GEL for the entire duration of stay. Without it, travelers can be fined (reported at around 300 GEL) or refused entry. Diplomatic passport holders and a few other categories are exempt. No visa fee applies; the only mandatory cost is the insurance policy.
