Do France passport holders need a visa to visit CZ?
French citizens need no visa to visit Czechia. As EU citizens with freedom of movement, they enter with just a valid passport or national ID card and may stay indefinitely (no 90/180 limit, no ETIAS, no EES registration). France and Czechia are both members of the European Union and the Schengen Area. Under EU freedom-of-movement rules, a French ordinary passport holder needs no visa to enter Czechia for tourism or any short visit. Travel is permitted with either a valid French passport or a French national identity card; there is no minimum passport validity requirement (the document only needs to be valid on the day of travel) and no entry fee. Because internal Schengen borders normally have no systematic checks, French travelers typically pass without document inspection, though Czechia or neighboring states may temporarily reintroduce controls during security events. The Schengen 90-days-in-180 short-stay rule does NOT apply to EU citizens; a French national may remain in Czechia without limit, needing only to report presence or register residence if the stay exceeds three months. New EU border systems do not affect French travelers: the Entry/Exit System (EES, operational from April 2026) and ETIAS (launching late 2026) apply only to visa-exempt non-EU/third-country nationals, not to EU citizens. The single practical obligation is to carry valid ID throughout the trip, as failure to produce it can result in fines.
