Do France passport holders need a visa to visit CY?
No visa. As an EU citizen, a French ordinary passport holder can enter Cyprus visa-free for tourism and stay indefinitely under EU free-movement rules. ETIAS and the EU Entry/Exit System do not apply to EU citizens. France and Cyprus are both EU member states, so French nationals travel to Cyprus under the EU right of free movement rather than under any visa or short-stay regime. A French citizen may enter Cyprus for tourism with either a valid French national identity card or a valid French passport — no visa is required, and there is no application or fee. There is no 90/180-day Schengen limit for EU citizens: a French national may stay for up to 90 days simply as a visitor, and may remain longer (working, studying, or residing) by registering for an MEU1/MEU2 registration certificate after three months, a simplified EU-citizen procedure. Cyprus is an EU member but, as of mid-2026, is not yet a full member of the Schengen area (it is targeting Schengen accession around 2026). Because of this, separate Cypriot border checks still apply when travelling between Cyprus and Schengen states, and a Cyprus national visa is not valid for the wider Schengen zone. However, this does not affect French citizens, who need no visa in any case. The EU ETIAS travel authorisation and the Entry/Exit System (EES) apply only to non-EU, visa-exempt nationals; as EU citizens, French passport holders are exempt from both. Travellers should simply ensure their passport or national ID card is valid on the day of travel.
