No visa needed. French ordinary passport holders can enter Brunei visa-free for tourism for up to 90 days, but must complete the free online E-Arrival Card before arriving. France is an EU member state, and Brunei grants ordinary passport holders from all EU member states 90 days of visa-free entry for tourism and short visits. This means French travelers do not apply for any visa in advance for a short trip. The passport must be valid for at least six months beyond the intended stay, and travelers should hold proof of onward or return travel and sufficient funds. Brunei is in Southeast Asia and is not part of the Schengen Area, so the Schengen 90/180 rule and ETIAS do not apply to entering Brunei (those relate to Bruneians visiting Europe, not the reverse). Since 1 May 2025, every foreign visitor — regardless of nationality, including visa-free French travelers — must complete Brunei's mandatory online E-Arrival Card before arrival; it is free and is not a visa. Stays beyond 90 days, or travel for work, study, or long-term purposes, require an appropriate visa or pass obtained in advance.
