Do France passport holders need a visa to visit AL?

French ordinary passport holders do NOT need a visa for Albania. You can enter and stay for up to 90 days within any 180-day period for tourism. A valid French national ID card is also accepted instead of a passport. As an EU member state, France benefits from Albania's visa-free regime. French ordinary passport holders (and EU national ID card holders) may enter Albania without a visa for tourism, business, or family visits and stay up to 90 days within any rolling 180-day period. This is set out in Albania's Law No. 79/2021 "On Foreigners" and confirmed by the Albanian Ministry for Europe and Foreign Affairs and the French Ministry for Europe and Foreign Affairs. Albania is NOT part of the Schengen Area (it is an EU candidate country), so the Schengen 90/180 rule and ETIAS do not apply to a trip to Albania itself; Albania operates its own separate 90/180 visa-free allowance. No application, fee, or pre-registration is required before travel. Entry simply requires a passport (or French ID card) valid at least 3 months beyond your intended departure date, plus the usual proof of onward travel and accommodation, which border officers may request. For stays longer than 90 days or for work/study, a residence permit or long-stay visa must be arranged.
