Finnish passport holders do not need a traditional visa for a short tourist stay in Mozambique (visa-exempt for up to 30 days), but they must obtain a mandatory Electronic Travel Authorisation (ETA) online before departure. Apply at evisa.gov.mz at least 48 hours ahead. Finland (FI) is on Mozambique's list of visa-exempt countries, allowing ordinary passport holders to enter for tourism for up to 30 days (extendable once for another 30 days in-country). However, Mozambique has layered a mandatory Electronic Travel Authorisation (ETA) on top of the visa waiver. The ETA was first introduced in May 2023, made mandatory for 29 visa-exempt countries (including Finland) in April/May 2025, briefly suspended in May 2025 due to platform technical problems, and reinstated when the relaunched eVisa/ETA portal (run with VFS Global) went live on 11 February 2026. As of mid-2026, Finnish travelers should apply for the ETA online at the official portal evisa.gov.mz before travel; airlines now check for it at boarding. The ETA is not a visa - it is a pre-travel registration for visa-exempt nationals. Travelers must also carry a passport valid 6+ months with two blank pages, a return/onward ticket, proof of accommodation, and evidence of sufficient funds. Reported fees vary between the official 650 MZN (~EUR 9 / USD 10) administrative figure and the higher ~USD 48 cited for the relaunched portal; budget accordingly. Because enforcement and the on-arrival channel have been inconsistent through 2025-2026, the safe and recommended route is to secure the ETA before departure.
