Do Finland passport holders need a visa to visit MW?

Finnish passport holders need a visa for Malawi as of 2026. The recommended route is the official Malawi eVisa (single-entry US$50, 30-day stay) applied for online before travel; visa-on-arrival is also available at main ports of entry. Finland is NOT visa-exempt for Malawi. Effective 3 January 2026, the Government of Malawi (via a Gazette Supplement notice dated 2 January 2026) revised its visa regime to a reciprocity-based model, revoking the unilateral visa exemptions that previously covered most European, North American and other Western nationals. Under the new policy, only nationals of SADC/COMESA member states, certain reciprocal-waiver countries (e.g. several Caribbean and Pacific states, Malaysia, Singapore, Hong Kong, Ghana, Gambia, Benin, Israel), and holders of certain official documents remain visa-exempt. All European nationals, including Finnish citizens, now require a visa for tourism. Travellers should obtain a Malawi eVisa in advance through the official Department of Immigration and Citizenship Services portal (evisa.gov.mw); a visa-on-arrival is also issued at major ports of entry, but the immigration department strongly encourages applying online beforehand to speed up entry. A single-entry visa costs US$50 and permits a stay of up to 30 days (extendable in-country); multiple-entry options are US$150 (6 months) and US$250 (12 months). Malawi is not in the Schengen area, so the Schengen 90/180 rule and ETIAS do not apply. Passport must be valid for at least 6 months with blank pages.
