Do Finland passport holders need a visa to visit MR?
Finnish passport holders need an eVisa for Mauritania, applied for online before travel via the official ANRPTS portal. Visa-on-arrival was discontinued on 5 January 2025. As of 30 May 2026, Finland (FI) ordinary passport holders cannot travel to Mauritania visa-free and can no longer obtain a visa on arrival. Since 5 January 2025 Mauritania has operated a mandatory electronic visa (eVisa) system run by the National Agency for the Population Register and Secure Titles (ANRPTS) at anrpts.gov.mr. All visa-required nationals, including Finns, must apply online and receive an eVisa approval before boarding their flight. Finland is not on Mauritania's visa-exempt list (which covers certain neighbouring African states and a few bilateral diplomatic/service-passport arrangements). The standard tourist eVisa is a single-entry permit valid for a 30-day stay; 90-day and 360-day options exist on the application form. The fee, commonly cited as 55 euro / 60 USD, is paid in exact cash on arrival rather than online; if a site asks for online payment it is a third-party agent, not the official portal. A passport valid at least six months with a blank page, a digital photo, proof of funds, and a yellow fever vaccination certificate are required. Processing officially runs about 7-14 business days, though travellers report longer waits, so apply at least a month ahead. Mauritania is not in the Schengen area, so the Schengen 90/180 rule and ETIAS do not apply.

For guidance only — visa rules change with little notice. Always confirm directly with the destination's embassy or foreign ministry before booking non-refundable travel. Information here applies to ordinary (non-diplomatic) passports unless noted.
