Do Finland passport holders need a visa to visit ML?

Finnish ordinary passport holders need a visa to enter Mali for tourism. There is no visa-free entry and no visa on arrival for Finnish/EU citizens. Apply in advance through a Malian embassy or consulate (typically Berlin for Finnish residents) or via Mali's online e-visa portal launched in 2025. A yellow fever vaccination certificate is mandatory. Mali is not a Schengen state and does not grant visa-free or visa-on-arrival access to Finnish (or EU/Schengen) ordinary passport holders. Finnish citizens must obtain a tourist visa before travel. The traditional and most reliable channel is a consular visa from a Malian diplomatic mission; because Mali has no embassy in Finland, applications are normally routed to the Embassy of the Republic of Mali in Berlin, which serves the Nordic region. In mid-2025 Mali introduced an online e-visa/entry-authorization portal (diplomatiemdc.gouv.ml), but it is French-only, still requires payment confirmation to the assigned embassy, and remains less established than the consular route, so a conservative traveler should treat the embassy visa as the primary path. Tourist visas typically allow a stay of 30 to 90 days, single entry, with consular processing of roughly 5 to 15 business days. A valid International Certificate of Vaccination against yellow fever is required for all travelers aged nine months and older, with no exceptions, and the passport must have at least six months validity and a blank page. Travelers should also note that Mali's security situation is volatile and most Western foreign ministries advise against travel to large parts of the country; entry rules can change at short notice (for example, Mali suspended visa issuance to U.S. citizens from January 2026).
