Do Finland passport holders need a visa to visit IQ?
Finnish passport holders need an eVisa before traveling to Federal Iraq (Baghdad and southern/central Iraq). Visa-on-arrival was suspended on 1 March 2025 for Finland and 36 other countries, so the eVisa must be obtained online before departure. Note: the autonomous Kurdistan Region (Erbil, Sulaymaniyah) still grants visa-on-arrival to EU citizens, but that Kurdistan visa is not valid in the rest of Iraq. As of 30 May 2026, a Finnish ordinary passport holder traveling to Federal Iraq for tourism must apply for an electronic visa (eVisa) in advance through the official portal evisa.iq. Iraq suspended its visa-on-arrival facility for 37 countries — including Finland and the rest of the EU — effective 1 March 2025, so travelers can no longer obtain a visa at Baghdad International Airport. The standard tourist eVisa is single-entry, permits a stay of up to 30 days, and is typically valid for entry within 60 days of approval. The total cost is approximately 206,000 IQD (about 145 EUR / 158 USD), which bundles the eVisa fee with a mandatory health-insurance charge. Processing is usually 24-48 hours. A key distinction: the autonomous Kurdistan Region (entering via Erbil EBL or Sulaymaniyah ISU) continues to issue a 30-day visa-on-arrival to EU citizens, but that visa is valid only within Kurdistan and does not permit onward travel into Federal Iraq. Travelers planning to visit both regions, or arriving via Baghdad, should obtain the Federal Iraq eVisa. Iraq is not in the Schengen area, so Schengen/ETIAS rules do not apply.
