No visa required. Spanish ordinary passport holders can enter Uruguay visa-free for tourism for up to 90 days, extendable once for a further 90 days at the National Directorate of Migration. Spain is an EU member state, and all EU nationals are on Uruguay's visa-exemption list. A Spanish ordinary passport holder may enter Uruguay for tourism or a short visit without a visa and stay for up to 90 days. This period can be extended once, on application to the Dirección Nacional de Migración (DNM), for an additional 90 days (180 days total per year). Uruguay is located in South America and is NOT part of the Schengen area, so the Schengen 90/180 rule and ETIAS do not apply to entering Uruguay (ETIAS is a European system that will instead affect Uruguayan citizens travelling to Europe from late 2026). At the border travellers present a passport that is valid for the duration of stay (six months' validity is widely recommended and accepted), and immigration officers may ask for proof of onward/return travel, sufficient funds and accommodation. No pre-arrival electronic authorization, eVisa or visa-on-arrival is required for short tourist stays.
