Spanish (EU) passport holders do NOT need a visa for North Macedonia. They may enter visa-free for tourism and short stays of up to 90 days within any 180-day period, and can even travel on a valid national ID card instead of a passport. As an EU Member State national, a Spain ordinary passport holder enjoys visa-free entry to North Macedonia for tourism, business and other short visits. The North Macedonia Ministry of Foreign Affairs explicitly exempts citizens of EU Member States and Schengen signatories from any visa requirement; they may enter with either a valid passport or a valid national identity card. The permitted stay is up to 90 days within any 180-day period. North Macedonia is a candidate EU country but is NOT part of the Schengen Area, so time spent here does NOT count against the Schengen 90/180 allowance, and the EU ETIAS travel authorisation does not apply to entering North Macedonia (ETIAS is required only for entering the Schengen zone). There is no fee, no application and no pre-registration for short tourist visits. For stays beyond 90 days, or for work, study or family reunification, a temporary residence permit must be obtained from the Ministry of Interior. Note a separate temporary measure (valid for 2026) lets holders of certain US/UK/Canada visas enter visa-free, but this is irrelevant to Spanish citizens who already have full visa-free access. Travellers should carry proof of accommodation and onward/return travel and sufficient funds, as border officers may request them.
