Spanish passport holders need a visa for Madagascar, but it is easy to obtain. The recommended route is the official eVisa (single-entry tourist visa, applied online before travel); the same visa can also be obtained on arrival at international airports. As of February 16, 2026 the 15-day eVisa now costs EUR 30 / USD 35. Madagascar is not visa-free for Spanish (ES) ordinary passport holders, but it operates an open, all-nationalities tourist-visa system. A single-entry tourist visa is required for any stay and is available two ways with identical pricing: (1) the official eVisa applied for online at evisamada-mg.com before departure, and (2) visa on arrival at Ivato (Antananarivo) and other international airports. The eVisa is the recommended channel because it confirms your authorization in advance and avoids airport queues. Madagascar is NOT in the Schengen area, so the Schengen 90/180 rule and ETIAS do not apply to this trip. Tourist visas are issued for up to 60 days via the eVisa portal (90 days possible via on-arrival/consular routes). Effective February 16, 2026, the 15-day eVisa fee tripled from EUR 10 to EUR 30 (USD 35) on the official portal; longer durations were unchanged (16-30 days EUR 35, 31-60 days EUR 40). Visa-on-arrival counters and embassies had not yet applied the increase at time of writing. Requirements: passport valid at least 6 months with two blank pages, return/onward ticket, and proof of accommodation.
