Spanish citizens do not need a visa to visit Austria. As an EU member state, Spain's nationals enjoy full freedom of movement and can enter and stay in Austria with no visa, no time limit, and no ETIAS requirement. Spain and Austria are both European Union member states and members of the Schengen Area. Under EU freedom of movement, a Spanish ordinary passport holder needs no visa to travel to Austria for tourism or any other purpose. Spanish nationals may enter with a valid national identity card (DNI) or passport. The Schengen 90/180-day short-stay rule and the upcoming ETIAS travel authorisation apply only to non-EU/EEA/Swiss nationals, so they do not affect Spanish citizens. For stays beyond three months, an EU citizen must meet residence conditions (sufficient means and health insurance) and register with the local authority to obtain a registration certificate (Anmeldebescheinigung), but there is no cap on the length of stay and no visa is ever required. Internal Schengen border checks between Spain and Austria are normally absent, though travel documents should be carried for random identity checks.
