Egyptian ordinary passport holders need a Schengen Type C short-stay visa to visit Italy for tourism. There is no visa-free, visa-on-arrival, or eVisa option, and ETIAS does NOT apply to Egyptians because ETIAS is only for visa-exempt nationalities. Apply in advance through VFS Global in Egypt before traveling. Egypt is on the EU's Schengen visa-required (Annex I) list, so Egyptian nationals must obtain a Schengen short-stay (Type C) visa before traveling to Italy for tourism. The visa is applied for through the Italian-accredited visa center VFS Global, with offices in Cairo and Alexandria. Applicants attend in person to give biometrics (10 fingerprints + photo), submit a documented file (passport, photos, travel insurance, flights, hotel/invitation, bank statements, proof of employment), and pay the standard €90 Schengen visa fee plus a VFS service fee. The Type C visa allows a maximum stay of 90 days within any rolling 180-day period across the 29-country Schengen Area. Italy is a full Schengen member, so the 90/180 rule applies. ETIAS (expected late 2026) is irrelevant for Egyptians: it covers only visa-exempt nationalities, whereas Egyptians require a full visa. Standard processing is roughly 15 calendar days at the Cairo office (about 20 at Alexandria) but can extend to 30-45 days in peak season, so applicants should apply 3+ weeks (ideally several months) before travel. As of 2026, the new EU Entry/Exit System (EES) registers biometrics at the border, but this does not change the visa requirement for Egyptian nationals.
