Egyptian ordinary passport holders can enter Iran visa-free for tourism for up to 20 days. No advance visa, eVisa, or visa on arrival is needed for short visits within this limit. As of June 2026, holders of an ordinary Egyptian passport do NOT need a visa to enter Iran for tourism or a short visit. Under a bilateral visa-exemption arrangement in force since 29 July 2015, Egyptian nationals are admitted visa-free for stays of up to 20 days. Entry is granted at the border on presentation of a passport valid for at least six months beyond the intended stay, together with proof of onward or return travel. Travelers wishing to stay longer than 20 days, or to enter for purposes other than tourism, must instead obtain an Iranian eVisa (via evisa.mfa.ir) or a visa on arrival, which are available to most nationalities at major airports. Iran is not part of the Schengen area, so the Schengen 90/180 rule and ETIAS do not apply. Note an important asymmetry: although Egyptians enter Iran visa-free, Iranian citizens are NOT eligible for visa-free entry or visa on arrival to Egypt. As always for Iran, travelers should carry sufficient cash (US dollars or euros) since foreign bank and credit cards do not function in Iran due to sanctions.
