Do Germany passport holders need a visa to visit SZ?
German ordinary passport holders do NOT need a visa for tourist visits to eSwatini. You receive a free entry permit (stamp) on arrival valid for up to 30 days, extendable at the Ministry of Home Affairs. No advance application and no fee are required. eSwatini (the Kingdom of Eswatini, formerly Swaziland) grants visa-exempt entry to nationals of most EU member states, including Germany, for short tourist and business visits. A German citizen with an ordinary passport may enter without applying for a visa in advance; an entry permit is issued free of charge at the port of entry, valid for up to 30 days. This can be extended once for a further period at the Ministry of Home Affairs, and stays beyond 60 days require a Temporary Residence Permit (TRP). The German Federal Foreign Office (Auswärtiges Amt) describes this as an entry permit granted "on arrival" for tourism, but it carries no visa application and no fee, so functionally it is visa-free. The passport should be valid for at least six months from the date of entry (the eSwatini tourism authority states a minimum of three months, but six months is the safer standard cited by the German Foreign Office) and contain at least two blank pages. Proof of onward/return travel and sufficient funds may be requested at the border. eSwatini is not in the Schengen area, so the Schengen 90/180 rule and ETIAS do not apply. There is no eVisa or ETA system for German tourists as of May 2026; eSwatini has announced plans for visa-on-arrival for nationalities that currently require visas, but this does not affect visa-exempt Germans.
