German ordinary passport holders need a visa for Saudi Arabia, but can obtain a tourist eVisa entirely online before travel. Visa-on-arrival at major airports is also available, but applying online in advance is recommended. Saudi Arabia is not visa-free for German citizens, but Germany is among the ~66 nationalities eligible for the Saudi tourist eVisa. The application is completed online at visa.visitsaudi.com with no embassy visit required. The eVisa is multiple-entry, valid for one year from issuance, and permits stays of up to 90 days per visit. Mandatory medical insurance is bundled into the fee. Approval is usually within 24 hours (often minutes). German passport holders eligible for the eVisa may alternatively obtain a visa-on-arrival (VoA) at the kiosks at major Saudi airports for SAR 480, but pre-applying online avoids airport queues and confirms approval before boarding. The passport must be valid for at least six months. This visa covers tourism, visiting family/friends, attending events, and performing Umrah outside the Hajj season; it does not cover Hajj or paid work.
