Do Germany passport holders need a visa to visit QA?
German ordinary passport holders do NOT need a visa in advance for tourism in Qatar. On arrival they receive a free visa waiver (stamp) that is valid for 180 days, permits multiple entries, and allows a stay of up to 90 days within that period. Qatar grants German citizens (and most EU/Schengen nationals) a visa waiver issued automatically and free of charge at the port of entry. No prior application is required. The waiver is valid for 180 days from issue, allows multiple entries, and permits cumulative stays of up to 90 days. To receive it, the passport must be valid for at least 6 months from the date of arrival, and travelers should be able to show proof of onward/return travel and confirmed accommodation. Holders of temporary/emergency German passports do not qualify for the waiver and must obtain a visa in advance from a Qatari mission. Since 2023, any stay longer than 30 days requires health insurance accredited by Qatar's Ministry of Public Health. Qatar is not part of the Schengen area, so Schengen 90/180 and ETIAS rules do not apply to entry into Qatar. Optionally, German travelers can also pre-apply for an A1 tourist e-visa via the Hayya platform, but this is unnecessary given the visa-free waiver. Verdict confirmed against Visit Qatar (official), the German Federal Foreign Office, and the published Qatar visa policy.
