Do Germany passport holders need a visa to visit MR?

German passport holders need an eVisa for Mauritania. Since January 2025 it must be applied for online before travel via the official ANRPTS portal; the EUR 55 fee is paid in cash on arrival. A German ordinary-passport holder traveling to Mauritania for tourism requires an electronic visa (eVisa). Mauritania launched its eVisa system in January 2025, and as of 5 January 2025 visa-required nationals (including all EU/German citizens) must apply online through the Agence Nationale du Registre des Populations et des Titres Sécurisés (ANRPTS) portal before boarding. The traditional visa-on-arrival counter has been superseded by this mandatory pre-arrival online step; embassies no longer issue stickers and instead refer applicants to the eVisa. The standard tourist eVisa is issued for 30 days with a single entry; 90-day multiple-entry eVisas are granted only in special cases (e.g. transit through Senegal with re-entry). The fee is EUR 55, paid in cash (exact EUR or USD) on arrival in Mauritania, where fingerprints are also taken. The passport must be valid for at least six months and have a blank page, and a yellow-fever certificate is required if arriving from an endemic country. Mauritania is not in the Schengen area, so Schengen 90/180 and ETIAS rules do not apply.
