Do Germany passport holders need a visa to visit MK?
German ordinary passport holders do NOT need a visa for North Macedonia. You can enter visa-free for tourism and short stays of up to 90 days within any 180-day period. North Macedonia is outside the Schengen Area, so this stay does not count against your Schengen allowance. North Macedonia grants visa-free entry to citizens of all EU and Schengen states, including Germany, for stays of up to 90 days within any 180-day period. As an EU/Schengen national, a German citizen may enter using either a valid German ordinary passport or a valid German national identity card. No eVisa, ETA, or visa-on-arrival scheme applies — entry is granted at the border with no advance application. North Macedonia is a candidate country for EU membership but is NOT yet in the EU or the Schengen Area; therefore time spent there is entirely separate from the Schengen 90/180 limit, and ETIAS (which applies to the Schengen zone for non-EU visitors) is not relevant for a German traveler entering North Macedonia. Travelers should hold a travel document valid for the duration of stay (officially around 90 days beyond entry is the conservative recommendation), and border officers may request proof of onward travel, sufficient funds, and accommodation. A 2024-2026 temporary measure also allows certain third-country nationals (holders of valid US/UK/Canada or multiple-entry Schengen visas) 15-day visa-free entry, but this does not affect German citizens, who already enjoy the full 90-day visa waiver. This has been the stable arrangement for years with no adverse 2024-2026 changes affecting Germans.
