Do Germany passport holders need a visa to visit EC?
German ordinary passport holders do NOT need a visa for tourism in Ecuador. You may enter visa-free and stay up to 90 days per year (counted from your first entry, not per calendar year). A T-3 entry stamp recording the permitted days is issued on arrival. As of 2026, German citizens holding an ordinary passport can travel to Ecuador for tourism, short business, or transit without a visa for up to 90 days within a 12-month period (the count starts on the date of first entry, not the calendar year). The German Federal Foreign Office confirms: "Deutsche Staatsangehörige benötigen für die Einreise und einen Aufenthalt bis zu 90 Tagen (pro Jahr) kein Visum." The passport must be valid for at least six months at the time of entry and undamaged. Immigration officers affix a T-3 stamp indicating the authorized stay (commonly 90 days, sometimes 60). Travelers should be ready to show an onward/return ticket and proof of sufficient funds; for the Galapagos Islands additional documents (return flight, hotel booking, INGALA transit card and park fees) apply. The 90-day period can be extended once by a further 90 days by applying to Ecuador's migration authority before the initial period expires; longer stays require a dedicated tourist or temporary visa for which travel health insurance is legally mandatory. There is no fee for the standard visa-free tourist entry. Ecuador is not in the Schengen area, so the Schengen 90/180 rule and ETIAS do not apply to this route.
