Do Germany passport holders need a visa to visit DO?
German ordinary passport holders do NOT need a visa for tourism in the Dominican Republic. They can enter visa-free for up to 30 days (extendable). There is no embassy visa to apply for, but every traveler must complete the free, mandatory online e-Ticket migration form before arrival, and the US$10 tourist tax is already bundled into the airfare. Germany is on the Dominican Republic's visa-exemption list. German citizens travelling for tourism enter without a visa and without buying a separate paper "tourist card" — since 2018 the US$10 tourist tax is automatically included in the price of air tickets issued abroad. The only mandatory administrative step is the e-Ticket (electronic entry/exit form) issued by the Dirección General de Migración, which is free and completed online before the flight. The standard permitted tourist stay is 30 days, extendable in-country through the Migration Department up to 120 days total (extension fees apply on a sliding scale, normally settled on departure). Under an exceptional measure in force 1 Dec 2024 to 31 Dec 2026, EU nationals (including Germans) may enter for tourism with a passport that is simply valid for the duration of the stay and departure, relaxing the usual six-month rule; carrying a passport valid 6 months beyond entry remains the safest practice. Proof of onward/return travel and sufficient funds may be requested. The Dominican Republic is in the Caribbean, not the Schengen Area, so the Schengen 90/180 rule and ETIAS do NOT apply to this route.
