German ordinary passport holders need an eVisa to visit Djibouti for tourism. Apply online before travel at the official portal evisa.gouv.dj; the short-stay eVisa covers up to 90 days. A Germany (DE) ordinary passport holder traveling to Djibouti for tourism or a short visit requires an electronic visa (eVisa). Germany is not on Djibouti's visa-exempt list, so visa-free entry is not available. Since 18 February 2018, Djibouti has operated an eVisa system through its official government portal (evisa.gouv.dj), and the authorities strongly recommend that ordinary travelers obtain the eVisa before departure rather than rely on visa on arrival. Two eVisa categories are relevant: a transit eVisa (1-14 days, USD 12) and a short-stay tourist eVisa (15-90 days, USD 23). The eVisa is typically issued within about 72 hours and is valid for entry within 90 days of the intended arrival date. While some sources mention a visa on arrival being available in 2025/2026, its availability is inconsistent and ultimately decided by the airline, so the conservative and recommended channel is the pre-arranged eVisa. The passport must be valid for at least six months beyond the intended departure from Djibouti, and applicants must supply proof of onward travel and accommodation. Djibouti is in East Africa and is not part of the Schengen area, so Schengen 90/180 and ETIAS rules do not apply.
