German ordinary passport holders need an eVisa for Côte d'Ivoire. Apply online via the official SNEDAI portal before travel; the biometric visa is finalized on arrival at Abidjan airport. There is no true visa-on-arrival without prior online pre-enrollment. Germany is not on Côte d'Ivoire's short list of visa-exempt countries (which is essentially limited to ECOWAS members and a handful of bilateral exemptions), so a German ordinary passport holder must hold a visa to visit for tourism. The practical channel is the electronic visa (eVisa) operated by SNEDAI on behalf of the Ivorian government. The applicant pre-enrolls online, uploads the passport bio-data page, a round-trip flight reservation and proof of accommodation or a letter of invitation, and pays the fee (approximately EUR 73 including bank charges) by card. Approval is normally issued within about 48 hours; the system requires applying at least 48 hours before departure and allows pre-enrollment up to roughly 50 days ahead. The eVisa is valid for 90 days from issuance, permits multiple entries and a stay of up to 90 days. Crucially, the eVisa is valid for air entry ONLY, and the biometric visa sticker is delivered at Félix Houphouët-Boigny (Port-Bouët) International Airport in Abidjan upon arrival, where biometrics are captured. Travelers entering by a land border (from Ghana, Mali, Liberia, etc.) cannot use the eVisa and must obtain a paper visa from an Ivorian embassy in advance. A yellow fever vaccination certificate is mandatory for all travelers and is checked on arrival. Passports must be valid for at least six months. The eVisa scheme is limited to ordinary passport holders meeting the six-month validity rule. Côte d'Ivoire is in West Africa and is not part of the Schengen area, so Schengen 90/180 and ETIAS rules are not relevant to this route.
