Do Germany passport holders need a visa to visit BN?

German ordinary-passport holders can enter Brunei visa-free for tourism for up to 90 days. No visa is needed, but every traveler must complete the free online e-Arrival Card before arrival. Germany has held visa-exempt status for Brunei Darussalam since 1987 (and as unified Germany since 1990). German ordinary passport holders may visit for tourism or short visits for up to 90 days without obtaining a visa in advance or on arrival, making Germany one of the most favorably treated nationalities under Brunei's visa policy (the 90-day tier shared with the EU, UK, US, Canada and Switzerland). Brunei is NOT part of the Schengen Area, so no Schengen 90/180 rule or ETIAS applies to this direction of travel (ETIAS concerns Bruneians traveling to Europe, not Germans traveling to Brunei). The single procedural requirement introduced recently is the Brunei e-Arrival Card: since 1 May 2025, all foreign visitors entering by air, land or sea must complete this free online registration via the Immigration Department portal (www.imm.gov.bn) before arrival, regardless of visa-free status. The e-Arrival Card is not a visa and carries no fee. Travelers must hold a passport valid at least six months beyond entry, proof of onward/return travel, and sufficient funds. Brunei enforces strict laws (alcohol importation limits, narcotics carry the death penalty), so travelers should review conduct rules before arrival.
