Do Germany passport holders need a visa to visit BD?

German (ordinary) passport holders can get a Bangladesh Visa on Arrival (VOA) for tourism: single entry, up to 30 days, US$51 (or EUR 51) paid in cash at the port of entry. Issuance is discretionary, so a pre-arranged sticker visa from the Bangladesh Embassy in Berlin (EUR 80) is the safer route. There is no eVisa. Germany is an EU member state, and Bangladesh grants Visa on Arrival (VOA) to EU nationals traveling for tourism, business or official purposes. A German ordinary passport holder may obtain a single-entry VOA valid for up to 30 days at Dhaka (Hazrat Shahjalal), Chittagong and Sylhet international airports, and at designated land borders with India. The fee is US$51 (or EUR 51) including taxes, payable only in cash (USD, GBP or EUR) at the Sonali Bank counter inside the airport; cards are not accepted. To qualify you must show a passport valid at least 6 months with 2 blank pages, a confirmed return/onward ticket, proof of accommodation (hotel booking or invitation letter) and sufficient funds (around US$500). Crucially, VOA issuance is at the sole discretion of the immigration officer and is never guaranteed. Bangladesh also periodically suspends VOA for certain nationalities around sensitive events (a temporary suspension affecting some EU states ran 15 Jan to 15 Feb 2026, now expired). Because of this discretion and the suspension risk, travelers wanting certainty should obtain a tourist (T-category) sticker visa in advance from the Embassy of Bangladesh in Berlin (or via the VFS Global / online MRV portal), which costs EUR 80 for single, double or multiple entry. Bangladesh does NOT operate an eVisa system. Bangladesh is not in the Schengen area, so Schengen 90/180 and ETIAS rules do not apply. Recommendation: arrange the embassy sticker visa ahead of time if your itinerary is fixed; otherwise VOA is available for flexible, spontaneous travel.
