Chinese ordinary passport holders need an approved Mauritania eVisa before boarding their flight. Since 5 January 2025, traditional visa-on-arrival has ended; you must apply online at the official ANRPTS portal first, then pay the EUR 55 visa fee in cash on arrival at Nouakchott airport. As of 30 May 2026, holders of an ordinary Chinese passport require a visa to enter Mauritania for tourism. Mauritania launched its electronic visa (eVisa) system in January 2025, and as of 5 January 2025 all visa-required nationals must obtain eVisa authorization online before boarding a flight to Mauritania; classic visa-on-arrival without prior online authorization is no longer available. Applicants register on the official Ministry of the Interior / ANRPTS portal (anrpts.gov.mr), submit passport, photo, travel and accommodation details, and select a duration (30, 90 or 360 days). The standard tourist fee of EUR 55 (approximately USD 60) is typically settled in cash at the point of entry at Nouakchott-Oumtounsy International Airport. A passport valid at least 6 months is required. Note that the exemption for Chinese diplomatic and service passports does NOT apply to ordinary passports, which always require the eVisa. Travelers should apply several days in advance and confirm current fees and document rules on the official portal before departure, as the system is relatively new and details can change.
